Storing & Transporting Natural Gas

Liquefaction & Compression

Transports, Regasification & PRUs

Reliable Supply

Our best in class LNG supply chain uses proprietary technology and the operational and logistical expertise of the Ferus Group of Companies to fuel operations in remote locations which include some of the most difficult and harsh climates.

We Scale & Customize to Your Needs

Ferus can execute on virtual pipeline services for projects of all sizes. From liquefaction facilities to customer site storage, Ferus can design, construct, and operate all aspects of the LNG supply chain. For a detailed LNG offering for your project, please contact for more details.

LNG vs. CNG

LNG and CNG are simply two different ways of storing and transporting natural gas. LNG is natural gas cooled to -162 degrees Celsius and takes up 1/600th the volume of methane. CNG is natural gas compressed up to 4,000 psig and is 1/300th the volume of methane. In either case, the natural gas goes into the engine at ambient temperature and low pressure.

Ferus approaches each project with the solution in mind and works the problem back to find the most economic and efficient supply chain possible. CNG is more economical for smaller volumes and shorter hauling distances. LNG supports longer distances and greater energy density per delivered load, smaller project footprint and less transport trailer traffic.

Facilities

LIQUEFACTION

Our liquefaction facility in Elmworth, Alberta began operations in 2014. The facility is being expanded from 4,375 GJ/d (50 000 Gallons per day (GPD)) to 13,125 GJ/d (150 000 GPD) to accommodate increased remote power and oil and gas demand. Construction on the expansion is anticipated to begin Q1/19 and be completed by YE2019.

As the market continues to develop in Canada, Ferus NGF will build proximal LNG plants to end user markets. We currently have a publicly announced proposed LNG facility in Fort Nelson, British Columbia to support two large development mines in the Yukon and the NWT.

COMPRESSION

Our mobile compression unit is complete with inlet gas metering, instrument air compression system, onboard natural gas generator, gas drying unit, and two offloading posts. The compression unit is equipped with a safety system that includes ESD shutdown, LEL detection, pressure safety valves, and breakaway devices on loading posts. The mobile compression unit has remote monitoring, viewing HMI screens, and remote shutdown.

Equipment

TRANSPORTS

LNG: Ferus owns and operates customized tractor-trailer designs to fit the applications. These designs include tandem-tandem (tan-tan) configurations for challenging terrain (e.g. oil & gas and mining operations) and tridem-tridem (tri-tri) for moving large volumes long distances. All LNG trailers are vacuum-jacketed to keep the LNG in liquid form for extended periods of time.

CNG: Ferus owns and operates CNG trailers constructed of steel or composite tubes to hold the gas at high pressure and maximize volume. A CNG tube trailer generally holds one quarter to one half as much energy as an LNG trailer.

REGASIFICATION

LNG is vaporized using a gas-fired glycol water boiler or electric heater. Ferus NGF owns and operates both configurations and deploys accordingly, depending on the job size and operational requirements.  We can meet a flow rate of up to 100,000 scf/hour with a single piece of equipment, or higher rates when deployed in combination. Both pieces of equipment monitor LNG storage level on site, as well as delivery pressure, temperature and flow rate to the end-user. Safety systems include high temperature and pressure shutdowns, LEL detection and flame detection.

PRESSURE REDUCTION UNITS

The pressure reduction unit (“PRU”) is located at the demand site and is tied into the natural gas generators. The PRU reduces pressure of gas to our customers’ desired outlet set pressure, while maintaining the minimum required gas temperature.

The unit is equipped with remote monitoring that includes flow rate, totalized flow, outlet pressure, outlet temperature, and trailer pressure. The system is equipped with ESD shutdowns, LEL detection, pressure safety valves, thief hatch on glycol system, and flame arrestor.
